Nambu Tekki iron kettle The Kyusu teapot has excellent heat retention properties and is less likely to break than ceramic or glass.
Since the inner surface is enameled, it is resistant to rust.
The unique wabi-sabi design of the iron kettle is a masterpiece of Japan.

On the surface is an iron kettle Kyusu teapot depicting NambuTekki’s hometown, Chusonji Temple, a World Heritage Site.
On the back side, Matsuo Basho’s haiku “Let’s leave the rain in May and Mitsudo” is drawn.
It is said that Basho Matsuo wrote this poem when he visited the Golden Hall of Chusonji Temple.

What is Matsuo Basho?
A haiku poet in the first half of the Edo period.
He developed haikai, the basis of the Haiku poem, and perfected the Haiku poem as an art form.
Basho Matsuo is famous not only for his Haiku poems, but also for his travel writings such as “Oku no Hosomichi”.

What is Chusonji?
Located in Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, Chuson-ji in Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, is the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism in northern Japan, which is said to be founded in 850 by Priest Ennin and was registered as a World Cultural Heritage in 2011. Its main attraction, Konjikido, or “the Golden Hall,” is elaborately decorated with gold leaf, inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Constructed in the 12th century by Fujiwara Kiyohira, the founder of the Northern Fujiwara, the hall houses the mummies of three generations of the Fujiwara family.
