Yokoyama Taikan
Yokoyama Taikan is a painter who led the modern Japanese painting world from the Meiji era to the Showa era.
Yokoyama Taikan used Chinese classics and other subjects as motifs for his paintings, and he also left many works featuring peaceful natural scenes such as Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms, and autumn leaves, which are symbolic of Japan. Yokoyama Taikan, whose calculated compositions, lush touch, and emotional style are considered the pinnacle of modern Japanese painting, also served as a leader of the Nihon Bijutsu-in (Japan Art Institute), where he guided many of his younger colleagues in the development of modern Japanese painting.
