Kuniyoshi studied painting from an early age, and at the age of 12, his painting “Shokioki Shoken Zu” caught the eye of Toyokuni Utagawa I, who took him under his wing at the age of 15.
Toyokuni Utagawa I. Toyokuni took notice of Kuniyoshi's painting “Shoki no Choken Zu” at the age of 12 and accepted him as a pupil at the age of 15. He later became one of the most famous ukiyoe artists of the late Edo period (1603-1868).
His richness of imagination, innovative design, outlandish ideas, and reliable sketching skills made him a master of Ukiyo-e,
